One day, inside newborn baby Mikeys body, all the major organs and limbs were arguing over who would get to be the boss. The Eyes and Ears used pretty much the same argument: Without the sensory data we provide, Mikey would have no way to navigate in or interact with the surrounding environment. The Heart said, Without the oxygen provided by the blood I pump throughout the entire body, Mikey would die in a matter of minutes. The Lungs replied, Big deal! Who do you think takes in the oxygen that you then distribute in the blood? The Legs said, HA! We have you ALL beat. How would Mikey even go anywhere without us to get him moving along? And so it went. Finally, after just about every single organ, limb, bone, node, gland, sac, sinus, muscle, and follicle argued their own case, the Brain quietly said, Excuse me, but I do believe youve all overlooked one important factor. Its the Central Nervous System that allows all of this to take place, with me at the helm.
I send the signals to the Heart that cause it to pump blood to the Lungs and Diaphragm causing respiration and to the Legs controlling their motion and keeping Mikeys entire body balanced.
I also interpret all of the sensory signals input through the Eyes, Ears, Nose, Tongue, and Peripheral Nervous System into a comprehensible understanding of the immediate environment. Plus, I control Language and Communication, so Mikey can fully interact with others. As you can see, without me, Mikeys body would fail to function. And all of the other body parts finally agreed except the A*****e, who loudly, shrilly, and annoyingly demanded to be immediately acknowledged as the Boss. When pressed for a reason for this ludicrous demand, the A*****e clammed up, but glared meaningfully at the other organs. When they defied the A*****e and declared the Brain boss, the A*****e clenched upand refused to loosen for any reason. The Colon started to back up, and then the Intestine.
Mikey started sweating profusely as fever swept through his ill-prepared body. The Legs grew weak and finally failed altogether. The Eyes dimmed the Stomach revolted. Finally, all of the other organs begged the Brain to relent and let the A*****e be Boss. Grudgingly, the Brain agreed. The moral of the story: You dont have to be a Brain to be the Bossjust an A*****e. |
